The Domestic Abuse
Response Team (DART) helped 1,047 victims whose cases included Order of
Protection violations, felony assaults or more than two domestic violence
incidents reported to the police. And, in 2000, in the City of St. Louis
seven victims of domestic violence also became homicide victims.
LAAW,
(Legal Advocates for Abused Women, St. Louis) clients range in age from
17 and up. The average LAAW client has dependents and is struggling on
a low income or no income at all. Women comprise 95% of LAAWÕs client
base, with 80-90% serving as female head of household. Minorities account
for 60-75% of LAAW clients. Approximately seven percent indicate they
